Cigarettes Subsequently Sex is an American dream pop band formed in El Paso, Texas, in 2008 by Greg Gonzalez. The ring is known for their ethereal, limerent and often dream-like musical way, lyrics often based on the themes of romance and love, too as Gonzalez's vocalism, which has been described as "androgynous".[seven] While marketed as an ambient pop band, Cigarettes After Sex are also considered to be shoegaze, slowcore and indie rock.
The band's debut extended play (EP), I., was released in 2012, with the song "Nothing's Gonna Hurt Yous Infant" eventually becoming a sleeper hit through commercial licensing. Afterwards the release of the standalone unmarried "Affection" in 2015, the band released their self-titled debut studio album in June 2017 to positive reviews.
The ring's second studio anthology, Weep, was released on October 25, 2019.

Cigarettes Afterwards Sexual activity was formed in El Paso, Texas, in 2008.[8] [nine] [7] Gonzalez recorded the first EP, I., in a four-story stairway at his alma mater, Academy of Texas at El Paso, calling the experience "basically an accident; kind of an experiment".[seven]
Gonzalez relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where the band's unmarried "Affection" was recorded and released in 2015 along with a cover of REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You".[10] [11]
Through music recommendations, Cigarettes After Sex activity became popular on YouTube, leading to alive performances across Europe, Asia, and the United States. The band then released their self-titled debut studio album on June 9, 2017.[12] [seven] [13]
In August 2019 the ring appear their second studio album, titled Cry, along with the single "Heavenly". The album was released on October 25, 2019.
"Falling in Dear" took two years to write, later Gonzalez met his current girlfriend, Nour Petite. "I wrote the chorus in the centre of a bunch of tours, very far from dear or real relationships, and trying to write that vocal would've felt dishonest. By the time nosotros got into the studio, I was seeing my current girlfriend and wrote from a real perspective," Gonzalez pauses before standing. "It felt very strange, in a manner, to finally have that."[ citation needed ]
Musical manner and influences [edit]
In a feature for Noisey by Vice, Christina Cacouris describes Cigarettes After Sex every bit "elemental, hazy and romantic, only with a noir edge underneath Gonzalez's androgynous voice" besides as "sweet and sentimental".[7] "As the band's proper noun suggests, it's reminiscent of lying in bed, but its ambient qualities don't forestall it from being music y'all can trip the light fantastic to."[7] Gonzalez cites Françoise Hardy as his favorite singer and Miles Davis equally having groovy impact.[7] In an interview with Audio of Boston, he as well noted films such as L'Avventura and The Double Life of Veronique were influential to the feel and sound of the music in "Amore" and their LP.[fourteen] The ring besides includes The Cowboy Junkies' anthology The Trinity Session, Julee Prowl, and Cocteau Twins every bit influences.[9] [fifteen] The music web log Eardrums Music describes the band as "wearisome, dreamy and beautiful with gorgeous, tender vocals and very proficient lyrics" and compares it to Mazzy Star.[15] Music bloggers behind Neat Tone describe Cigarettes After Sex as a band producing "melancholy, slow pop that will sweetly rock any listener into a listless shock."[xvi]
Reviewing Affection for Independentmusicnews.com, Jae Pyl concludes that "there'southward just such an intimacy to Cigarettes After Sex's sound that it's impossible to non allow information technology into the pit of your belly."[xi]
The ring's song "Apocalypse" is included in the soundtrack of Srećko Horvat'south book Poetry from the Futurity. [17]
